An Insight into the Career Paths in Indian Air Force
Many young people want to join the Indian Air Force to serve the nation with pride. A career in the IAF promises an extraordinary life. Being the fourth largest Air Force in the world, IAF has a lot of recruitment opportunities in different branches. If you are looking for a career opportunity in the Indian Air Force, then here are the career paths that can land you a job: -
Candidates who are appearing or qualified 10+2 in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics can apply for National Defence Academy (NDA) exam, conducted twice a year by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The exam is conducted for entry into Flying, Technical, and select Non-technical branches of IAF. Prospects who clear the NDA exam and associated selection process undergo training at NDA followed by training at Air Force Academy (AFA).
After Engineering
Another entry point in Indian Air Force is after engineering. Eligible candidates can appear for the AFCAT (male and female) and CDS exams (male only) respectively. Whilst CDS entry facilitates recruitment in the Flying branch, the AFCAT entry facilitates recruitment into Technical/ Flying/ Ground duty branches. The selected candidates of Technical branches are provided basic training at AFA followed by specialization training at Air Force Technical College (AFTC). The Ground duty branch candidates undergo training at Air Force Academy (AFA). The Flying branch candidates primarily undergo training at Air Force Academy (AFA) followed by fleet-specific training at IAF nodal training centers.
After Graduation
One can also join IAF after completing graduation. The Ground duty branch candidates undergo training at the Air Force Academy (AFA). The Flying branch candidates primarily undergo training at Air Force Academy (AFA) followed fleet specific training at IAF nodal training centers.
After Post-Graduation
A post-graduate candidate can also join the IAF. Education and Meteorology branches require post-graduation in specific subjects. Whilst entry into the education branch is through AFCAT, entry into the Meteorological branch is through MET entry for which registration is normally undertaken concurrently with the AFCAT exam.
The exams i.e. NDA & CDS are conducted by UPSC and AFCAT is conducted by Indian Air Force.
